Hennig Brinkmann

Hennig (Henning) Brinkmann (born August 29, 1901 in Königsberg ; † July 8, 2000 in Lüdinghausen , Westphalia ) was a German Middle Latin and Germanist .

Hennig Brinkmann graduated from high school in 1918. From 1918 to 1922 he studied German, history, philosophy and Dutch at the University of Bonn . In 1922 he received his doctorate with the work History of Latin Love Poetry in the Middle Ages . In 1924 he completed his habilitation in Jena with the work History of Minnesong . From 1924 he taught German and Middle Latin philology as a private lecturer. In 1930 he became an associate professor in Jena.

Brinkmann was an active SA member from 1933 and belonged to the NSDAP from 1937 . In the same year he became a full professor in Berlin, 1938 in Frankfurt am Main, 1943 visiting professor in Istanbul and 1944 as visiting professor for the German Scientific Institute in the Independent State of Croatia at the University of Zagreb .

From 1957 he was an associate professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1959 to 1969 Brinkmann taught there as a full professor for Middle Latin Philology. From 1963 until his retirement in 1969 he was director of the Middle Latin seminar in Münster. In 1973 he received the gold doctoral degree from the University of Bonn. His main research interests were the philosophy of language , semiotics , language theory, historical linguistics , syntax , and text linguistics.
