A bridge igniter (imprecise squib , electric igniter , bridge igniter ) is an electrically ignited igniter for pyrotechnic substances.

construction

It essentially consists of two wires that are brought together in a squib . A bridge lighter is not explosive . This distinguishes the bridge igniter from detonators .

use

When a voltage is applied and the resulting current flow through the wire, it is heated and in turn ignites the fire agent and subsequently the pyrotechnic substance , e.g. B. a fuse . Bridge detonators are wired and controlled with an ignition machine .

Trade restrictions

Bridge detonators are partially assigned to foil detonators. The term foil igniter can refer to both bridge igniter and slapper igniter . Foil detonators are subject to export controls in Germany and Switzerland.
