Elena Anguissola
Elena Anguissola , also Elena Angosciola , Elena Anguisciola or Elena Angussola , (* after 1532 probably in Cremona , † after 1584 possibly in Mantua ) was an Italian painter and nun.
life and work
Elena Anguissola was a daughter of the patrician Amilcare Anguissola, who might be a draftsman , and his wife Bianca Ponzona, as well as the sister of Anna Maria , Europa , Lucia , Minerva and Sofonisba Anguissola, who were also painters . Little is known about their life. From 1546, like her sister, she was trained as a painter by Bernardino Campi and from 1549 by Bernardino Gatti . She seems to have painted very little afterwards, as she apparently spent most of her life as a religious sister. When Vasari visited the family in 1566, she had already left the house and was probably already living in the monastery of San Vincenzo in Mantua , where it is attested to in 1572. When the work was published, she was still alive there.
Nothing is currently known about her painterly work.
