Bernardino Campi
Bernardino Campi (* around 1522 in Cremona , † August 18, 1591 in Reggio nell'Emilia ) was an Italian painter and draftsman of the late Renaissance .
life and work
The son of the goldsmith Pietro Campi received his first art lessons from his father and learned the goldsmith's trade from him. Later Campi students was the painter Giulio Campi . Supported by his teacher, Campi went to Mantua and became a student of Ippolito Costa (1506–1561). There he got to know Giulio Romano and his work.
In 1550, Isabella von Capua, the wife of Ferrante Gonzaga , invited him to Milan to paint a series of family portraits. When he returned to Cremona, he established a studio and had a number of students, including Sofonisba Anguissola , her sister Elena and Giovanni Battista Trotti (1555-1612). During this time Campi published his book Parer sopra la pittura .
Bernardino Campi died in Reggio nell'Emilia in 1591 at the age of almost 70.
Campi's work is influenced by the Titian , but Correggio and Raffael are also among his models. Sometimes he copied Titian almost true to the original.
