Europe Anguissola
Europa Anguissola , also Europa Angosciola , Europa Anguisciola , or Europa Angussola (active around 1566 to before 1578 ), was an Italian painter.
life and work
Europe Anguissola was a daughter of the Patrician and perhaps as Zeichnerdilettant make Amilcare Anguissola and his wife Bianca Ponzona and the sister of working also as painters Anna Maria , Elena , Lucia , Minerva and Sofonisba Anguissola . Little is known about their life. When Vasari visited the family in 1566, she was still very young. In 1568 she married the nobleman Carlo Schinchinelli from Cremona , and painted several pictures for his family.
According to tradition, she appears to have been a very busy portraitist who painted various nobles from Cremona. There is also evidence of a portrait of her mother that she sent to Spain. None of these works has survived or can be safely associated with it. She also painted a number of devotional pictures and altars, some of which have survived. Stylistically, these works are clearly under the influence of their older sister Sofonisba, who she may also have taught.
