Anna Maria Anguissola
Anna Maria Anguissola , also Anna Maria Angosciola , Angussola, Anna Maria or Anna-Maria Anguissola (* around 1555/1556 probably in Cremona ; † around 1611 probably there) was an Italian painter .
life and work
Anna Maria Anguissola was a daughter of the Patrician and perhaps as Zeichnerdilettant make Amilcare Anguissola and his wife Bianca Ponzona and the youngest sister of working also as painters Elena , Europe , Lucia , Minerva and Sofonisba Anguissola . Little is known about their life. When Vasari visited the family in 1566, she was still a child. Before 1578 she married the nobleman Jacopo Sommi, who also came from Cremona.
According to tradition, she was best known for her portraits. But she also painted religious pictures. Stylistically she was under the influence of her sister Sofonisba Anguissola, from whom she may also have been trained. Much of her work seems to be lost or not yet recognized. Certainly only two jobs can be assigned to her at the moment. A Holy Family with St. Francis , signed with the words Annae Mariae Amilcharis Angussolae Filiae , is now in the Pinacoteca del Museo Civico in Cremona . It is controversial whether this is an authentic signature or a retrospectively applied signature. A Virgin with the Child and the boy John signed, Anna Maria Virgo Amilcaris Anguisoli et Sophonis soror suae aetatis annorum quindicirn fecit , was formerly in a private collection in Cremona, and is about the young John added free copy of Correggio's only fragmentary preserved Madonna della Scala which is now in the Galleria nazionale di Parma in Parma (Inv.-No .: 31) .
