Jelena Dmitrievna Bashkirova

Jelena Dmitrijewna Bashkirova ( Russian Елена Дмитриевна Башкирова , English Elena Bashkirova ; * 1958 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist, co-founder of the Metropolis Ensemble Berlin and artistic director of the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival ( International Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival ).

Life

Bashkirova was born in Moscow as the daughter of the pianist and teacher Dmitri Bashkirow . She studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in her father's master class. In 1978 she left the Soviet Union and moved to Paris.

She is a regular guest with well-known orchestras such as the Munich Philharmonic , the Berlin Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra . In 1998 she founded the International Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival , which takes place every September. Since it was founded, she has been responsible for the design of the festival as artistic director. This festival has become an integral part of cultural life in Israel. Guest performances and a. in Berlin, Paris, London, Vienna and New York make the festival known far beyond the borders of Israel. In 2012 she founded an annual partner program in Berlin, the chamber music festival Intonations in the Jewish Museum . In 2018 Jelena Baschkirowa was awarded the Ruhr Piano Festival Prize.

Jelena Bashkirowa has been married to the pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim since 1988 . The couple have two sons, Michael Barenboim , who is a classical violinist , and producer and songwriter David Barenboim ( KD-Supier ). She was previously married to the violinist Gidon Kremer .
