Elena Gilles

Elena Gilles (* 1989 in Hanau ) is a German canoeist .

Life

Elena Gilles, who is a member of the Hanauer Ski- und Kanugesellschaft (SKG), dedicated herself to canoeing right from the start, whereby she and her club mate Karoline Sinsel developed into such successful canoe polo athletes that both of them soon joined the German canoe team. National team belonged. In 2009 and 2013 both took part in the World Games . Once again they were part of the German team at the World Games 2017 in Wroclaw , with which they won the gold medal in canoe polo. In August 2017 they took part in the European Championships in Saint-Omer with the German national team and became European champions in canoe polo.

Awards

In 2014, Gilles was nominated for the World Paddle Award in the “ Sportswoman of the Year ” category.

For winning the gold medal in canoe polo, Elena Gilles and her teammates were awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Steinmeier on October 13, 2017 .
