Johann Paul Wurfbain (also John Paul Wurffbain , * 14. September 1655 in Nuremberg ; † 13. January 1711 ) was a German physician and Physicus in Nuremberg.

Life

Before Johann Paul Wurfbain worked as a physician in Nuremberg from around 1680, he attended the Melanchthon grammar school in Nuremberg . He is the author of the first comprehensive work on the biology of the salamander ( Salamandrologia ).

On July 14, 1681, Johann Paul Wurfbain was registered under registration no. 97 accepted as a member of the Leopoldina with the academic surname Hermes II .

As the successor to Lukas Schröck , Wurfbain was Director Ephemeridum of the Leopoldina from 1693 to 1710 and, in this capacity, oversaw the publication of the scientific journal " Miscellanea curiosa sive Ephemeridum medico-physicarum ", which had been printed by the Nuremberg bookseller Wolfgang Moritz Endter (1653–1723) since 1683. .

The East India traveler Johann Siegmund Wurffbain was his father.
