Lukas Schröck

Lukas Schröck (born September 20, 1646 in Augsburg ; † January 3, 1730 ibid) was a German physician and naturalist.

Life

Schröck studied medicine at the University of Jena and also obtained a licentiate in this subject. He then went on the Grand Tour through Germany and Italy, which was still common at that time .

After his return he studied further and received his doctorate in 1671 with his dissertation "De moscho". In the same year Schröck established himself as a general practitioner in Augsburg . A little later the city council appointed him medicus of the city hospital . In August 1677 Schröck was accepted as a member of the Leopoldina (German Academy of Natural Scientists).

From 1685 he acted there as editor of the magazine "Ephemeriden" and in 1693 the society elected him as its president. He became the successor of Johann Georg Volckamer and chose Celsus I as the company name . In 1687 Schröck was appointed imperial personal physician and made acceptable by being raised to the nobility . From 1712 Schröck was also active as the “First City Physician ” in Augsburg.

Lukas Schröck died on January 3, 1730 in Augsburg at the age of 84.
