Eleni Bastea

Eleni Bastea , Greek Ελένη Μπαστέα , (* 20th century in Thessaloniki ; † January 12, 2020 ) was a Greek art and architecture historian .

Bastea first studied art history at Bryn Mawr College and graduated with a BA. She then went on to study architecture (graduating with an MA in 1982) and was awarded a Ph.D. in 1989 with a dissertation on modern planning for the city of Athens. PhD in Architectural History from the University of California at Berkeley . After an assistant professorship at Washington University in St. Louis , she was Regents Professor of Architecture and Director of the International Studies Institute at the University of New Mexico from 2001 . In 2000 she received the John D. Criticos Prize (together with Gonda Van Steen ) for the English book version of her dissertation .

Bastea was also active as a writer ( short stories and poems ).
