Eleonora Ziemięcka (* 1819 in Jasienice near Czersk , Mazovia , † September 23, 1869 in Warsaw ) from the Gagatkiewicz house was a Polish author. Among other things, she dealt with questions of ethics and morals .

Life

Ziemięcka lost her parents at an early age and grew up as an orphan with her grandparents. As early as 1830 she published articles on Polish history in Dziennik dla dzieci . Ziemięcka was an enthusiastic Hegel reader and is also discussed as a philosopher in contemporary reviews. Edward Dembowski - himself a philosopher and literary critic - had written his debut Filozoficzność i pani Ziemięcka about her philosophy, his book was published in 1841. However, in the course of her development Ziemięcka increasingly paired her philosophical considerations with her growing Catholic faith, with which she subjected herself to harsh criticism. In the years 1842–1846 she was the editor of "Pielgrzym" (= pilgrims ), a magazine for philosophy, history and literature.

Ziemięcka had married in 1836 - a painter, landowner and neighbor of her grandparents -, traveled to Dresden with him and from then on was under his influence first Hegel - and then Schelling -a follower. Before that, she found these philosophers to be too "German", their philosophy as remote from the world, and she had expressed utilitarian criticism.
