The NS Elephant (S11) is in China built warship and the largest ship in the Namibian Navy , the naval forces of Namibia .

Construction of the Elephant began in mid-2011. On July 3, 2012, it was handed over to the Namibian Navy in its home port of Walvis Bay . The commissioning took place on September 7, 2012. The main purpose of the ship is to monitor the exclusive economic zone .

Furnishing

The Elephant was built on the basis of the Haixun class (Haixun 01), a cutter class , as a patrol boat . It has a flight deck and berths for at least 150 crew members. It can freight in shipping containers of up to 24 tonnes or six Mannschaftstransportwagen take up to 12 tons each. The superstructure includes a fire control radar and three guns. The Elephant has two lifeboats as well as a crane and a launch .
