The Elfrather Mühle is a tower windmill near Haus Traar in Krefeld - Traar . The name of the mill comes from the Elfrathshof , to which the mill belonged and after which the later Elfrath district is named.
Technology and buildings
The mill, which is the largest in the Krefeld city area, is a tower windmill which stands on a base ring made of brick . A single-storey residential building and farm buildings belong to the mill. The facade of the mill is roughly plastered (plastered) and whitewashed.
The mill served the milling of flour from grain .
History and current state
The mill was built in 1823 by the miller Benjamin Schmitz from Vennikel.
It was used as a mill until the 1930s when it was initially inoperable for a while. With financial resources from the city of Krefeld, the mill was restored, but only operated again for a short time until 1941. During the Second World War , the vicinity of the mill was hit several times during air raids by the Allies and the building was badly damaged. The wing mechanism was completely destroyed and only renewed in 1969 and again in 1982. Today the mill is in a functional condition, but is not operated, but used as a clubhouse for a nearby golf club and houses a restaurant.
