Michael "Mike" Siklenka (born December 18, 1979 in Meadow Lake , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was under contract with the EC KAC in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League until 2016 .

Career

North America

Mike Siklenka began his career as a hockey player with the Seattle Thunderbirds , for which he was active from 1997 to 1999 in the Western Hockey League (WHL). During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1998 in the fifth round as a total of 118th player by the Washington Capitals , for which he however never played. Instead, the defender ran up to 2002 for a total of three years for Washington's farm teams , the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League (AHL), and the Hampton Roads Admirals and Richmond Renegades from the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). On January 27, 2002 he signed a contract as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers , for which he was in the 2002/03 season in a game in the National Hockey League (NHL) on the ice. However, he spent the entire rest of the season with their AHL farm team Philadelphia Phantoms .

For the 2003/04 season Siklenka moved to the New York Rangers , for which he played his second and so far last game in the NHL. After just under a month, however, he was obliged again by his ex-club Philadelphia Flyers in November 2003, but played until the end of the season exclusively in the AHL for the Philadelphia Phantoms and Utah Grizzlies , as well as in the ECHL for the Trenton Titans . In the 2010/11 season he played for the Chicago Wolves , the Atlanta Thrashers ' farm team .

In the North American leagues, he came to over 400 missions with 73 goals and 83 assists, and 731 penalty minutes.

Europe

In the summer of 2004, the right-handed player moved to the EC KAC in the Austrian Ice Hockey League , with which he failed in the playoff finals in the 2004/05 season with just 3: 4 wins at the Vienna Capitals . The Canadian spent the 2006/07 season at Leksands IF in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. Even after that year he stayed in Northern Europe, where he was also under contract with Lukko Rauma from the Finnish SM-liiga for a season. In the summer of 2008, the former NHL player returned to Austria, where he and the reigning champions EC Red Bull Salzburg lost to his former club EC KAC in the championship final.

Siklenka was signed in January 2011 by EC KAC from the Austrian ice hockey league. In Klagenfurt, Siklenka became a crowd favorite because of his scorer qualities and fist fights, but also took unnecessary time penalties due to his hardships. In 2012 he was the player with the most penalty minutes in the league in the play-offs. In 2013, with 8 points in 13 play-offs, he had an important part in the Klagenfurt's 30th championship title.

For the entire 2015/16 season, Siklenka was excluded from the squad because of "internal discrepancies", but rejected exit options submitted by the KAC and had to serve the season with full pay. In order not to risk a breach of contract, he had to stay in Klagenfurt, but was not allowed to participate in training sessions or team meetings. For the KAC he came to a total of 301 appearances with 73 goals and 124 assists, i.e. 197 points. In addition, he received 960 penalty minutes, which corresponds to the duration of 48 game thirds.
