Elfriede Rehbein

Elfriede Rehbein (born June 19, 1929 in Leipzig ; † December 11, 2004 in Dresden ) was a German researcher in the field of transport .

She was a co-founder of the University of Transport “Friedrich List” (HfV) in Dresden and from 1952 to 1974 head of the chair for economic, technical and transport history there as well as first director of the Dresden Transport Museum . She wrote numerous publications on traffic history.

Life

Elfriede Rehbein studied economics at the Academy for State and Law in Forst Zinna . Her dissertation, presented in Dresden in 1953 , was entitled “On the character of Prussian railway policy from its beginnings to 1879”. Her habilitation thesis, presented in Halle (Saale) in 1958, was “Studies on the history of imperialist German railway policy from 1890 to 1914”.

In May 1987 she was appointed director of the newly founded historical center of the HfV. Since 1989 she has been professionally retired.

In an obituary written in March 2005 by the “Transport History Working Group in the Young Forum of the German Transport Science Society” it says: “It had a decisive influence on scientific activities in the field of transport history. As one of the founders of the “Friedrich List” University of Transport, she contributed to the establishment of this institution, which is still unique today. It not only left the student council extensive knowledge of the development of transport, but also made a particular contribution to the self-image and profile of transport sciences. "

Awards

On June 8, 1979, on the Day of Workers in Transport in the GDR, she received the honorary title of Honored Worker in Transport in the German Democratic Republic. On July 1, 1983, she was appointed dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the HfV.
