Elga Sorge (actually Helga Sorge ; * 1940 ) is a feminist theologian .

Life

Elga Sorge studied French and Protestant theology in Göttingen and from 1970 taught at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Harvestehude as a religion teacher. From 1973 onwards she acted as head of studies at the Pedagogical-Theological Institute in Kassel. In 1979 she was appointed lecturer for feminist theology at the comprehensive university in Kassel , where she was involved in the training of pastors and religious teachers . Sorge wrote and published the Ten Permits , the Mother of Our Lady and the manifesto of the confessing Frauenkirche as a witch's convention and thus influenced numerous colleagues and feminists. In her main work Religion and Women. Female spirituality in Christianity she interpreted passages of the Bible (e.g. ( Jer 44  EU )) in such a way that God and Jesus appear feminine in them. So she replaced God with the earth goddess and contrasted the "Sado spirituality" with a supposedly omnipotent, patriarchal "Father God who allegedly had his own son murdered" with a conciliatory, life- and lust-affirming, humane alternative. Her creed contains the lines: "You are the power in everything, the daringly loving virgin, the cosmic mother of all living things, the ancient wisdom and love and trust and openness in eternal bliss."

After the church leadership in Kassel withdrew her teaching license in 1987, disciplinary proceedings were opened against her in 1989 by the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck . Under this pressure, Sorge renounced her job as head of studies at the Pedagogical-Theological Institute in Kassel and accepted a ten-year maintenance payment from the church.

Sorge has been the state chairwoman of the Liberal Seniors of Lower Saxony since 2005 .
