Hans-Gernot Jung

Hans-Gernot Jung (born February 10, 1930 in Marburg , † November 26, 1991 in Kassel ) was a Protestant theologian and bishop of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .

Life

Jung was a son of the future Vice President of the Kurhessische Landeskirche Wilhelm Jung. He studied theology in Marburg and Heidelberg and received his doctorate in 1959 with a thesis on questions of political preaching. In Marburg he became a member of the Germania fraternity in 1949 , to which his father had already belonged. After his ordination he became pastor in Kassel-Wehlheiden and at the Kreuzkirche in Kassel . On a part-time basis he was the student pastor for the technical colleges and universities in Kassel. From 1962 to 1965 he was a full-time student pastor in Marburg. In 1965 he became director of the Evangelical Academy in Hofgeismar , and in November 1974 he was appointed regional church councilor and advisor for adult education in the regional church office in Kassel. From 1965 to 1974 he was a member of the regional synod, and in 1972 also a member of the synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany .

In 1978, Jung was elected to succeed Erich Vellmer as bishop of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck and was introduced to his office on April 14, 1978 in the Martinskirche in Kassel. He served until his death in 1991.

Jung was chairman of the Arnoldshain Conference from 1982 to 1985 and has been a member of the Presidium of the Conference of European Churches since 1986 .
