Eli Moschcowitz

Eli Moschcowitz (born August 2, 1879 in Girált , Sáros County , Hungary , † February 23, 1964 in New York City ) was an American doctor and university professor. He was the first to describe thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), also known as Moschcowitz syndrome .

Live and act

Moschcowitz was born in Hungary , his parents emigrated to the United States in the first years of his life . He studied medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons until 1900 . After a one-year research stay with Ludwig Pick , he worked at the Beth Israel Hospital and the Mount Sinai Hospital . He was Director of Mount Sinai Hospital and Professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 1945 he retired.

In 1911 he described the eosinophilia associated with anaphylactic reactions , in 1924 the thrombotic-thrombocytopenic purpura , also known as Moschcowitz syndrome, and in 1927 pulmonary hypertension .

He was the brother of surgeon Alexis Victor Moschcowitz .
