Eli Smith (born September 25, 1955 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese painter .

After training to be a radio mechanic in 1976, he began painting in 1980. In 1982 Eli Smith attended the art school in Holbæk, Denmark, and continued to educate himself on study trips abroad.

As early as 1981 he was represented at the annual Ólavsøka exhibition in Tórshavn. Since then he has exhibited regularly alone or with others in the Faroe Islands and Denmark. From 1994 to 1997 he devoted himself to graphics, which resulted in a book in which he illustrated evening songs.

A permanent exhibition can be seen in his Gallarí undir Brúnni in his house Børkugøta 27 in Tórshavn. Primarily watercolors , but also pictures of his children Napoleon, Líggjas and Anna. On his homepage he writes that the gallery is always open when he is at home.

Faroese stamp collectors may remember Eli Smith from the 1986 Amnesty International postage stamp. In 2005 he was remembered for his colorful block of 10 with motifs from the island of Vágar .
