Elia Schmid (born May 22, 1996 ) is a Swiss table tennis player .

Life

Elia Schmid was born in 1996 and grew up in Meiringen . Through the table tennis clubs Interlaken, Spiez, Brügg, Belp, Bulle, Rio-Star Muttenz and Kloten, he is now playing at TTC Wil in the National League A. At a young age, he was noticed by victories against much older players. Thanks to his talent, he quickly rose to become a top Swiss player and is currently number 11 in Switzerland (November 2018).

In March 2014, he won the Swiss Elite Championship against his then teammate Lionel Weber in 4-2 sets . Another success is the qualification for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing . At the qualifying tournament in Cairo , he clearly defeated Belgian tournament favorites Martin Allegro 4-1 in the final. Although this is 22 places higher in the U18 world rankings. In December 2016 he resigned from the STT squad, surprisingly even for Insider. In April 2016 he was number 228 in the world rankings. In Neuchâtel in March 2018, he won his second title in the Swiss Elite Championship against Lars Posch 4-2.

In Switzerland there is a double license system, i. H. a player can be active in two countries at the same time. This enables Elia Schmid to serve in the 2019/20 season in Sweden for third division club Norbergs BTK in addition to the Swiss NLA league.
