Iliad Zengelis

Ilias Zengelis , ( Greek Ηλίας Ζεγγέλης , also Elia or Elias Zenghelis , * 1937 in Athens ) is a Greek architect. He became known through the founding of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) together with his then student Rem Koolhaas .

Life

Zengelis studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture , which he graduated in 1961. At that time he was working as an architect in the London architecture firm Douglas Stephen and Partners.

From 1971 to 1975 he worked a. a. with Georges Candilis , Michael Carapetian, Aristidis Romanos, Oswald Mathias Ungers and Peter Eisenman . With Rem Koolhaas he founded the Office for Metropolitan Architecture in 1975, where Zaha Hadid also worked. The OMA had offices in London, Rotterdam and Athens. In 1987 Zenghelis left the OMA office.

He has taught as a lecturer or professor at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, Columbia University in New York City, Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, the Art Academy in Düsseldorf , the Edinburgh College of Art, School of Architecture in Edinburgh, the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning , the University of Liechtenstein and the ETH Zurich .
