Elias Baumgärtel

Elias Baumgärtel , also Baumgertel, or Baumgartel (* around 1610 in Frühbuß ; buried February 19, 1678 there ) was city judge and mountain master of Frühbuß.

Life

Elias Baumgärtel came from a family that had lived in Frühbuss since the mid-16th century until the expulsion. Already from 1570 to 1576, a supposed ancestor and namesake held the office of judge. It is not known who his parents were. Like most of the residents of the village, he was active in the tin mining industry, so according to the tax roll of 1654 he operated half a shaft. In 1663 he appears in the church registers himself as a judge and from 1666 as a mountain master. He probably took over the latter office from Georg Abraham Löbel , who emigrated because of his faith. In order not to lose his property and position, he converted to Catholicism even at a time when early penance was still predominantly Protestant . Due to the increased demand for tinplate in the second half of the 17th century, early penance mining experienced a second economic boom during his tenure and received new mining privileges. In addition, the place was given a coat of arms in 1672 and its own jurisdiction in 1677. Baumgärtel died in 1678 at the age of 68. His successor as Bergmeister was Daniel Pausch . His sons were the city judge and quarter master Christian Baumgartel, as well as the mine manager Florian Baumgartel. His sons-in-law were the city judge Johann Heinrich Funck , as well as the school and mountain master Theophil Richter .
