Elias Gunzenhäuser

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elias Gunzenhäuser (* in the 16th century ; † 1606 ) was a German carpenter and master builder from Schorndorf who worked in Württemberg.

life and work

Overall, little is known about Gunzenhäuser, especially since he was overshadowed by Heinrich Schickhardt , to whom the department store and town church in Freudenstadt were sometimes erroneously ascribed. His major works include the church in Waldenbuch and the department store and the angle church built Town Church in Freudenstadt . In the town church of St. Veit in Waldenbuch, Gunzenhäuser suspended the large west gallery from the wooden roof structure. The large gallery floats in the room without supports, a masterpiece. As a leading carpenter, Eilas Gunzenhäuser was also responsible for the roof of the New Lusthaus in Stuttgart. This self-supporting roof with remarkable wood connections was innovative and a special feature at the end of the 16th century; it was admired beyond the national borders.
