Elias Murr
Elias Michel al Murr (born January 30, 1962 in Bteghrine , Metn North ) is a Lebanese politician . He has been Lebanese Defense Minister since 2005.
Elias Murr is a son of the former Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Michel Murr and belongs to the Greek Orthodox Church . He studied law in Geneva with a degree in 1982. From 1982 to 1996 he was mayor of Bteghrine. In 2000 he succeeded his father as Minister of the Interior; he held this position until 2004. During the same period he was acting as Minister of Defense on an interim basis. On July 12, 2005, he was assassinated in Antelias, north of Beirut , in which he was injured and two people were killed.
Elias Murr is the nephew of Gabriel Murr, businessman and owner of MurrTV, and the former son-in-law of former President Émile Lahoud . He is the father of three children.
