Pier is a district of Langerwehe in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The district was created in 2004 and is mainly intended for the residents of Pier ( Inden ), who had to give way to the Inden opencast mine and leave their place.

history

The district was founded with the groundbreaking on November 26, 2004 east of the Langerweh district of Jüngersdorf on an approximately 26 hectare building area with 265 properties. In mid-May 2005, the first building plots were available. This construction area serves as a new home for the inhabitants of the village of Pier, about six kilometers away as the crow flies, which is a district of Inden and will be dredged because of the Inden opencast mine, and is therefore sometimes called "New Pier". Like Langerwehe, Inden is in the Düren district. On March 6, 2006, the mayor of Langerweh welcomed the first relocated family to Pier.

Most of the dead were also relocated or reburied from Pier (Inden) to Pier (Langerwehe). For this purpose, a new cemetery with 522 grave sites, an honorary grave field with a high cross and a planned funeral hall was consecrated in Pier (Langerwehe) on February 2, 2006. The funeral hall was inaugurated in May 2012. The community center with the adjoining Schützenheim was inaugurated in November 2011. It offers space for approx. 400 people.

Completion of the relocation

On September 14, 2013, the completion of the resettlement of Pier was celebrated in a large community festival for all former residents of Inden-Pier. Organized by the Pierer village community and the miner, many citizens took part in this festival.

On this occasion the book “History between Rur and Inde” by the historian Dr. Peter Staatz. It describes the past of Pier and Vilvenich from the beginning to the relocation.

In September 2014, the village of Pier was awarded silver in the district competition Our village has a future by the district administrator of the Düren district, Wolfgang Spelthahn .
