Former monastery

Wenau has been the smallest part of the municipality in Langerwehe in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Düren since 1972 .
Geographical location
Wenau is located in the northern part of the German - Belgian nature park Hohes Venn-Eifel , around 3.5 km (as the crow flies ) south-southwest of the Langerweh core town. The Wehebach , which strives northwards towards the Inde, flows past to the east.
history
From 1794 to 1815 Wenau belonged to the Mairie Heistern in the canton of Eschweiler , Département de la Roer , from 1815 as a municipality to the district of Düren and since 1932 together with Hamich to the office of Langerwehe. On January 1, 1972, Wenau was incorporated into the Langerwehe community. From 1961 to 1971 the place could be reached by post under 5181 Wenau (via Eschweiler) , from 1972 to 1993 under 5163 Langerwehe . Since 1993 the postal address is 52379 Langerwehe .
Wenau Monastery
The slender spire of the Wenau Church of St. Katharina stretches in front of the receding mountain ranges of the Northern Eifel in the Wehebach valley . She is the former monastery church of the Monastery of the Premonstratensians , the 1122 Canons of Floreffe was founded. It was dissolved in 1802 and leased to the last prior, Lambert Severin von Geldern . The cloister of the former monastery was restored in 1977 by the parish . In addition to a permanent sacred exhibition, special and changing exhibitions of various art styles are held here. The Friends of Wenau Association organizes religious concerts in the monastery church . Opposite the former monastery is the St. Roch Chapel.

Wenau is on Kreisstraße 49 between Hamich and Heistern ; the next junction to the federal motorway 4 is Langerwehe . The next train station on the Cologne – Düren – Aachen route is Langerwehe . Two AVV bus lines connect Wenau with Hamich, Heistern, Gressenich , Schevenhütte , Langerwehe, Nothberg , Bergrath and Eschweiler- Mitte.
