The Wehebach , also called Wehe , is a 25.7 km long river in the Aachen city region and in the Düren district in western North Rhine-Westphalia . The woe flows from south to north, is dammed in the Wehebachtalsperre and flows into the Inde from the right at Lamersdorf (today Inden municipality ) . The Wehebach is the namesake of the village of Langerwehe . The slopes west of the stream have been part of the Hohes Venn-Eifel Nature Park since 2020

course

The Wehebach arises from the spring branches of the left Rote Wehebach and the right Weiß Wehebach, whose former confluence is now flooded by the dam. The Rote Wehe rises east of the forester's house Jägerfahrt von Zweifall and forms the municipal boundary between Stolberg and Hürtgenwald up to its confluence with the Wehebachtalsperre . The main river is the noticeably longer White Wehebach, which has its source at the southern edge of the Todtenbruch forest near Hürtgenwald- Raffelsbrand , flows north through the Hürtgenwald and receives numerous smaller tributaries. Shortly before the confluence with the Wehebachtalsperre, the four-kilometer-long Hürtgenbach flows from the right. The Hülsensiefen, Weberbach and Schliefensiefen then flow into the southern arm of the dam, created by the flooding of its old valley, while the south-western arm of the lake in the lower valley of the Rote Wehebach also feeds the Rothsiefen. An eastern branch takes up the Thönbach.

Immediately after leaving the Wehebachtalsperre, the forest retreats to the valley slopes and the Wehebach takes on the Hüttsiefen from the left, runs through the Schevenhütte from about the left tributary of the Lamersiefen and then changes northwards at the Bleimühle from the urban area of Stolberg over to the Langerweh municipality . Here it flows east past Hamich , Wenau Monastery , Heistern and Gut Schönthal and reaches Langerwehe-Mitte. There he finally leaves the forest behind and now flows through a flatter agricultural landscape, crosses the district of Luchem and leaves the municipal area at the bridge under the A 4 . Then it bends briefly to the northwest, flows through Inden / Altdorf and in it past Haus Lützeler, before flowing into the Inde from the right opposite the eastern outskirts of Lamersdorf at Gut Merödgen.

Catchment area and tributaries

The Wehebach has a catchment area of 68.4 km² that extends to the communities of Stolberg, Hürtgenwald, Langerwehe and Inden.
