Raffelsbrand is a district of the municipality Hürtgenwald in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The place is in the Rureifel and in the nature park Hohes Venn-Eifel in the Eifel . Neighboring towns are Lammersdorf , Zweifall , Vossenack and Simonskall . From Raffelsbrand you can see far into the Cologne Bay and the Zülpich Börde .

The place consists of a U-shaped ring road, on which 31 farms were built, but not all of them are cultivated today.

history

During the fighting in the Hürtgen Forest in World War II , the forest was so destroyed that it could no longer be afforested and agricultural areas were created around Raffelsbrand.

On November 6, 1964, the then Federal President Heinrich Lübke visited the newly created Raffelsbrand settlement.

Raffelsbrand belonged to the Monschau district until December 31, 1971 . As part of the local reorganization (Aachen Law), the municipality of Hürtgenwald was created in its current size on January 1, 1972.

The federal highway 399 leads past the village . Buses BVR take lines 286 and 86 to the site. The place itself has no through traffic.

Worth seeing

In Raffelsbrand there is the first soil nature trail in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was opened on June 13, 2003 by the then State Environment Minister Bärbel Höhn .
