Straß is a district of the municipality of Hürtgenwald in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .
location
The place is in the Eifel National Park in the Rureifel and in the North Eifel Nature Park directly on the ascending slopes of the Eifel . Neighboring towns are Langenbroich , Untermaubach , Gey and Schafberg . From Straß you can see far into the Cologne Bay and the Zülpicher Börde .
history
In 1789, Straß and the neighboring town of Gey belonged to the Jülich office of Nörvenich .
On July 1, 1969, the formerly independent municipalities of Bergstein, Brandenberg, Gey, Großhau, Hürtgen, Kleinhau and Straß, administered by the Straß-Bergstein District Association, voluntarily merged to form the Hürtgenwald municipality. As part of the municipal reorganization ( Aachen law ), the municipality of Hürtgenwald was created in its current size through the incorporation of Vossenack on January 1, 1972.

In Straß there is the Gey-Straß primary school with a teaching pool . High school and junior high school are in Kleinhau, the private school of the Franciscans in Vossenack . There are other schools in the district town of Düren .
