Elio Ruffo

Elio Lorenzo Ruffo (born January 1, 1921 in Bovalino ; † June 16, 1972 ibid) was an Italian film and documentary director .

Life

Ruffo, coming from a family determined by Republican ideas and Masonic traditions, studied law and worked for some time as a journalist for various newspapers. Then he got into film from the late 1940s, working as an assistant to Mario Sequi , Giorgio Simonelli and others. The first documentaries were also produced with SOS Africa and Modelle vestite . In 1955, Tempo d'amarsi, a self-produced and self-written feature film, was shown in Italian cinemas in which he addressed the social problems of his home region of Reggio Calabria . It was not until twelve years later that he presented a successor with Una rete piena di sabbia . He was unable to carry out numerous other projects.

Ruffo is not to be confused with the painter of the same name.
