Eliot Hodgkin
Curwen Eliot Hodgkin (born June 19, 1905 in Purley Lodge, Pangbourne near Reading , † May 31, 1987 ) was an English painter . Although he began to paint with oil paint, he used tempera paints for most of his works , especially his still lifes .
Family life
Hodgkin was the only son of his parents Charles Ernest Hodgkin and Alice Jane Brooke. The Hodgkin family were a Quaker family and related to Roger Fry . Eliot, cousin of the abstract painter Howard Hodgkin , attended Harrow School from 1919 to 1923. His artistic life began in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in Francis Ernest Jackson.
