Life

Elisa was born in Kuummiit as the daughter of the artist Kârale Andreassen (1890-1934) and his wife, the obstetrician Johanne Kalia (1898-1973). She got her first name from her paternal grandmother, while her third first name means "caramel". Her birthplace was only co-founded by her parents a year before she was born. In 1933 she traveled to Copenhagen with her family to participate in the film Palo's Bridal Ride . Both Knud Rasmussen , who wrote the script, and Elisa’s father died during the filming and Elisa eventually returned to Kuummiit. In 1937 she moved back to Denmark, where she worked as a pediatric nurse in Fuglebakkens Børnehospital . She then worked as a midwife at Rigshospitalet and then returned to her home country, where she worked in the hospital in Tasiilaq until 1950 . She later worked for the Ammassalik community for ten years . On September 21, 1947 she had married the hunter William Jakob Maĸe (1917–1986), son of Robert and Aline, to whom she had children Kaarale (* 1939), Anders (* 1945), Janus (* 1950), Arnaq (* 1951), Karoline (* 1952), Richardt (* 1953), Bajaat (* 1954) and Ulla (* 1956) gave birth.

Elisa Maĸe was considered an expert on East Greenlandic traditions and language . Together with the French ethnographer Catherine Enel , she wrote a book about childhood in East Greenland, inspired by her own early years. Others dealt with women's craft in peat house and tent construction. She had been a founding member of the Blue Cross in Tasiilaq since 1958, as well as the founder and first chairwoman of the city's women's association, from which she soon left. Then she founded the children's home Armangivat and thus founded a collaboration u. a. with Save the Children . On June 21, 1989 she received the Nersornaat in silver for her many years of commitment. She died in the fall of 2007 at the age of 91.
