from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elisabeth-Schiemann-Kolleg is an initiative of the Max Planck Society (MPG) founded in 2012 to promote outstanding young scientists in the natural and engineering sciences . The namesake Elisabeth Schiemann was one of the first scientists to be appointed Scientific Member of the MPG and gained international fame not only through her scientific achievements, but also through her resistance to National Socialism .

Admission procedure

As young academics, the Schiemann colleagues have a doctorate in natural or engineering sciences. You are at the end of your postdoc period or are a group leader, but do not yet have a permanent academic position. The colleagues are appointed once a year for a period of five years. Permanent employment leads to the termination in advance. University professors and research directors in Germany and abroad are entitled to nominate. The selection is made by a commission made up of Schiemann members. The outstanding selection criterion is the scientific excellence of the nominated candidates.

functionality

As part of the Schiemann-Kolleg, female colleagues meet regularly with a group of mentors made up of Max Planck directors. In addition to the scientific exchange, the main focus is on preparing for a scientific career.

Several alumnae of the Schiemann-Kolleg have already been appointed to professorships:
