Elisabeth Jost

Elisabeth Jost (born May 26, 1934 in Oberstein ; † December 8, 2018 in Idar-Oberstein ) was a German teacher and politician ( SPD ).

Life

Jost attended elementary school from 1941 to 1944 and grammar school from 1944 to 1950. After secondary school, she attended the Höhere Handelsschule from 1950 to 1951 and then from 1951 to 1954 the Göttenbach-Gymnasium Idar-Oberstein where she passed the Abitur in 1954. She then studied school music (majoring in organ), musicology, German literature and mathematics in Mainz and Vienna, and in 1957 passed the piano state examination at the Vienna Music Academy. She worked as an assistant and passed the state examination in 1959. From 1960 she was employed in higher education in Trier, Hermeskeil, Kirn and Idar-Oberstein. In 1971 she became a senior teacher. From 1973 to 1978 she studied early music with a major in harpsichord at the Frankfurt University of Music and passed her diploma and artistic maturity examination in 1978. From 1980 to 1983 she studied at the Administration and Business Academy in Koblenz, where she graduated from the Administration and Business Academy in 1983. In 1989 she became director of studies. She was a music consultant and a member of the didactic commission for choirs and orchestras at the Ministry of Culture. From 1987 to 1988 she attended the State Institute for Teacher Training in Speyer and completed an external course in church music from 1997–1998, which she completed in 1998 with the C examination. She was a master class student in Saarbrücken and Zurich with state examinations in the main subject organ, concerts and lecturer at the adult education center. In 2018, at the age of 84, Jost gave her last concert on the occasion of her birthday in the Christ Church in Idar-Oberstein.

In 1966 she joined the SPD and from 1975 was a member of the city council and sub-district executive committee of the SPD. From 1976–1988 she was sub-district chairwoman, deputy district chairwoman of the Working Group of Social Democratic Women and from 1985 deputy state chairwoman of the Working Group of Social Democratic Women.

In 1974 she became a member of the Idar-Oberstein city council, where she was on the parliamentary committee and from 2009 to 2012 chairman of the parliamentary group. 1979–1984, 1989–1994 and since 2004 she belonged again to the Birkenfeld district assembly and 1979–1984 was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Birkenfeld district assembly.

In 1983 she was elected to the tenth Landtag of Rhineland-Palatinate , to which she was a member until the end of the 1987 electoral term. In the state parliament she was a member of the committee for economy and transport and the petitions committee.

Awards

Jost was the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit and the golden brooch with striped jasper from the city of Idar-Oberstein.
