Elisabeth Schmid (politician)

Elisabeth Schmid (born November 19, 1923 ; † September 25, 2014 ) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and first President of the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau .

biography

Elisabeth Schmid grew up in Wettingen and at the age of 25 married Josef Schmid , who was also a member of the Aargau Council from 1949 to 1969. In 1973 she entered the Grand Council in the first election after the introduction of women's suffrage. There she was elected on April 30, 1985 with 181 out of 184 valid votes as the canton's first member of the Grand Council. After 16 years she left the Grand Council in 1989.
