Elisabeth Schwamb
Elisabeth Schwamb (born May 31, 1897 as Elisabeth Fritz in Marburg an der Lahn , † September 20, 1964 in Mainz ) was a resistance fighter and co-founder of the SPD in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Life
Elisabeth Schwamb married the lawyer Ludwig Schwamb in 1923 , with whom she joined the SPD in the 1920s.
Illegal meetings with other resistance members (including Wilhelm Leuschner , Julius Leber and Carlo Mierendorff ) took place in the Schwambs' house in Berlin. Three days after the unsuccessful assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944 , Ludwig and Elisabeth Schwamb were arrested. After a short imprisonment, Elisabeth was released; her husband was executed by the National Socialists on January 23, 1945 .
After the Second World War, Elisabeth Schwamb took part in the rebuilding of the SPD, for which she was twice elected to the district council of the Mainz district. From 1950 she was a member of the board of the SPD Rheinhessen, a forerunner of the later founded regional association of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate . Her political commitment was to improve occupational health and safety for women and to mitigate §218 StGB .
