origin

Elisabeth belonged to the von Eitzing family , who in the Middle Ages lived in what is now the federal states of Bavaria, Upper Austria and Lower Austria. Her brother was Ulrich von Eyczing (d. 1460) . Her father is likely to have been that Georg (Görig) Eitzinger (son of a Stephen), who is proven as a witness in a court case by Rieder Schranne in 1387 and who had a land registry drawn up in 1397 . Other brothers of hers were Oswald von Eyczing and Stephan von Eyczing .

Life

Elisabeth, who had entered the Benedictine monastery Erla (near St. Valentin ), was its abbess there from 1437 to 1466. In addition to large donations, she succeeded in considerably increasing the monastery's holdings through acquisitions. The Erla Abbey was one of the largest manorials in Austria under the Enns .
