Elisabeth von der Lippe (born July 9, 1592 , † June 19, 1646 ) was elected abbess at Freckenhorst Abbey . Due to the adverse conditions, however, she did not exercise her office. From 1612 she became Countess of Holstein-Schaumburg through marriage.

Life

As the daughter of Count Simon VI. zur Lippe (1554–1613) and his wife Elisabeth von Holstein-Schaumburg (daughter of Count Otto IV. von Holstein-Schaumburg ), Elisabeth von der Lippe was born into an ancient Westphalian noble family. In 1604 the rumor spread that the abbess Margaretha Elisabeth von Manderscheid-Blankenheim-Gerolstein was seriously ill. Count Simon suddenly entered into negotiations with the chapter to secure the position of his daughter as abbess. Elisabeth was then eleven years old and of Protestant creed. This constellation was by no means unusual. The same conditions were met for the nomination and election of Abbess Agnes Maria von Limburg-Styrum .

On December 31, 1604, Elisabeth was postulated by the overwhelming majority of the chapter, but against the vote of the dean . The Münster councils refused their confirmation by the professor . On March 5, 1605, Count Simon complained that the members of the chapter had been subjected to impermissible coercion and that the election had been changed to the name of Elisabeth von Bergh-s'Heerenberg . On September 12, 1612, Elisabeth married Count Hermann Georg von Holstein-Schaumburg (1577-1616) from the Gemener Line. In 1614 the son Otto emerged from this marriage . After his death, Elisabeth took over the government of the county of Schaumburg herself . She was buried on September 22, 1646 in Stadthagen .
