Elisabetta Lazzarini
Elisabetta Lazzarini (* 1662 in Venice ; † July 9, 1729 ibid.) Was an Italian painter of the Venetian school during the Renaissance .
life and work
Lazzarini was the daughter of a barber and the sister and student of the painter Gregorio Lazzarini . Her style of painting is said to have been so similar to that of her brother that the only picture she can prove was often mistaken for Gregorio's.
The painting Rebecca at the fountain or Eliezer and Rebekka , which is in the Church of San Pantalon in Venice, is definitely attributed to her . The artist encyclopedia Bénézit names the painting Martyrdom of Saint Vitalis in the Church of San Vidal in Venice as another work . In Thieme-Becker , however, it is pointed out that this work ("Martyrdom of the local saint") is also attributed to Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini .
The whereabouts of other society scenes and still lifes painted by her is unknown.
