Elisenda Paluzie Hernández (born October 13, 1969 ) is a Spanish economist and politician .

Scientific career, research and teaching

After Paluzie had attended the international French school Lycée Français de Barcelone until she graduated in 1987 , she studied at the University of Barcelona . There she graduated with a degree in economics in 1992 before continuing her studies at Yale University . She returned to Europe in 1996 with a master’s degree . From then on she taught there in parallel to her Ph.D. - Studied at the University of Barcelona as a lecturer at the university. Between 1997 and 1998 was thanks to a research scholarship from the Fundación Bancaria "la Caixa" as a guest research student at the London School of Economics enrolled. In 2001, Paluzie was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, ​​and in 2009 she took over the management of the Faculty of Economics as Dean . She held this office until April 2017, two years earlier she had been appointed full professor at the university.

The main focus of Palzie's work lies in the areas of foreign trade theory , regional economies and economic geography , whereby she is a representative of the New Economic Geography . She did research in particular on the Spanish economic area, but also on the Catalan, French and Italian economies, for example on the influences of fiscal policy , European integration and migration .

Political commitment

During her studies, Palizie was involved in the national Catalan student organization Federació Nacional d'Estudiants de Catalunya , later she was a member of the regional party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya . In March 2018 she succeeded the imprisoned Jordi Sànchez i Picanyol as President of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana .
