Elissa Aalto
Elissa Aalto (born November 22, 1922 as Elsa Kaisa Mäkiniemi in Kemi ; † April 12, 1994 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish architect and designer .
Life
In 1941 Elissa Aalto began studying architecture and design at the Helsinki University of Technology . After graduating in 1949, she started her professional career in Alvar Aalto's architectural office . In 1952 she married Aalto, 24 years her senior, whose first wife Aino had died in early 1949. After Aalto's death in 1976, she became the director of Alvar Aalto & Co. and, together with the architect Harald Deilmann, completed Alvar Aalto's projects, such as the plan to build the opera house in Essen . She was also the managing director of the design furniture production Artek .
Elissa Aalto died in 1994 and was buried in the grave of Alvar and Aino Aalto at Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki.

Awards
- In 1981 Elissa Aalto was made an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects .
