Elizalde Beta
The Elizalde Beta (also known as ENMASA Beta ) is an air-cooled nine-cylinder radial engine with exhaust gas turbocharger that was built in Spain in the 1940s. With around 775 hp, it was the most powerful single-row radial engine that was ever made in Spain.
Development and application
The engine was developed based on the American Wright R 1820 engine by the Spanish Elizalde SA in Barcelona and was used as a replacement engine for the aircraft built during the Spanish Civil War. This engine was used in the Spanish version of the Junkers Ju 52 Transport , the CASA C-202 Halcón and the Hispano HA-100 Triana .
This radial engine was later named ENMASA Beta because the private Elizalde SA, founded in 1908, was nationalized in December 1951 and incorporated into the Instituto Nacional de Industria INI under the name Empresa Nacional de Motores de Aviación, SA (ENMASA).

An engine of this series is now in the Museo de la Ciencia y de la Técnica de Cataluña in Terrassa , province of Barcelona. In the summer of 1964, a Ju 52 with this engine was in service on the military part of Palma de Mallorca Airport and was in service with the Spanish Air Force Ejercito del Aire until 1974.
