The Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium (EHKG) is a gymnasium on Grillostrasse in Duisburg-Marxloh . The city of Duisburg is responsible for the school . The namesake is Elisabeth "Elly" Heuss-Knapp , a German politician and wife of the first German Federal President Theodor Heuss .

history

The school was founded in 1904 as a high school for girls, but later also opened for boys. In 1954, two years after her death, the high school was named after Elly Heuss-Knapp. In 2009, grades 6–9 will be converted into an all-day school .

school-building

The school consists of an old building, a new building and a gym. In addition to the classrooms, the old building from 1904 also houses a specialist classroom for music and geography. In addition, there is a school auditorium, break room, teachers' room and cafeteria in the old building. By restructuring the 6th to 9th grades into an all-day school, the cafeteria was enlarged in the summer of 2009 in order to meet the increased requirements for caring for the students.

In the new building, consisting of two components from the years 1957 and 1974 and 2007 with a new facade, there are school management and administration. In addition, there are a large number of specialist classrooms in the new building, for example for biology, physics, chemistry, art, computer science as well as a second music room and the school kitchen, which is used for nutrition.

The gymnasium is a bit away from the two buildings. This also received a modern facade design in 2007. The gymnasium is a double hall which, if necessary, can be separated into two individually usable halls by means of a lowerable partition, but is ultimately too small for the number of students. In addition to the usual school sports, sports clubs also use this sports facility. The gym is currently being provided with a new hall ceiling and a new hall floor.

In a modernization project, which is partly financed by donations, computers, projectors and other media are being installed in every classroom. In addition, there are already three Internet islands. The Thyssen-Krupp company donated a solar system, the energy obtained is fed into the grid and some of the profits generated from this flow to the school.

Already at the end of the first season, the first district championship title for the U13 girls was on the books. Unfortunately, the male teams could no longer participate after the coach's death.
