Aslı Sevindim (* 23. December 1973 in Duisburg ) is a journalist , radio presenter and writer .

Life

Aslı Sevindim grew up as the daughter of Turkish parents in Duisburg-Marxloh and attended a Catholic kindergarten . After elementary school she went to the Elly-Heuss-Knapp-Gymnasium , where she graduated from high school in 1993. She then studied political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen . From 1993 to 1998, i.e. H. Already parallel to her studies, she worked as a presenter and author at Radio Duisburg, focusing on Turkish-language programs. In 1999 she started working as a journalist and radio presenter for Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). Here she moderated and wrote for programs in the program Funkhaus Europa and for Venus FM . From 2004 she also presented the program Cosmo TV on WDR television and, from 2006 to May 25, 2019, she was the first Turkish presenter to present the news program Current Hour . Sevindim received greater attention through her audience moderation of the midnight discussion program on the controversial WDR television film Wut 2006 in the ARD and in the edition of the television program Hart aber fair , in which the publication of the book Germany abolishes itself was discussed by Thilo Sarrazin .

Sevindim made her debut as a book author with the humorous work Candlelight Döner: Stories about my German-Turkish Family (2005). In the same year Sevindim was one of the prominent Turks in Germany who wrote a short story for the German-Turkish short story book What are you living? (2005).

On March 30, 2007 Sevindim hosted the 43rd award of the Adolf Grimme Prize , one of the most important media events in Germany, which was broadcast on the 3sat station .

For the 2010 Capital of Culture year of the Ruhr Metropolis, Sevindim was one of four artistic directors responsible for the “City of Cultures” topic. She is also a member of the board of trustees of the Center for Turkish Studies at the University of Duisburg / Essen and of the integration advisory board of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In November 2018 Sevindim took part in the program of the German Congress of Training Managers in Düsseldorf .

Since July 1, 2019, Sevindim has been the head of the "Integration" department in the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . She replaced Aladin El-Mafaalani .
