The Max-Planck-Gymnasium Duisburg is a municipal high school for boys and girls in the Duisburg district of Meiderich (or Mittelmeiderich). Its catchment area is generally in the Meiderich-Beeck district or the nearby north of Duisburg, which mainly includes the districts of Unter-, Mittel- and Obermeiderich, Ruhrort , Laar , Beeck and Beeckerwerth , but also partly Neumühl and Hamborn . At the beginning of 2014, 1131 students attended the Max Planck Gymnasium, who are taught by 77 teachers and 10 trainee teachers.

History and structure

The main building of today's Max-Planck-Gymnasium, which has existed since 1895, officially became a gymnasium for boys in 1902, received its current name in 1947 and introduced co-education in 1971 . In addition to the main building (A), two additional pavilions (B and C) were built in 1960, which are primarily used for the testing and testing stage. Today's main wing (A, B, C and gym) of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium is on Werner-Wild-Straße (named after a former headmaster who had an accident while on duty) in Meiderich. In addition, in 1993 the building complex of a former secondary school on the neighboring Hollenbergstrasse was included, which is used as a department (H) for the upper level (usually also the 10th grade).

Others

The Max-Planck-Gymnasium owned a school campus in Udenbreth in the Eifel (Schullandheim Werner Wild), which was acquired in 1951 and has since been the main destination for school trips for the lower and middle grades. Due to financial difficulties, the school camp of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium was sold in 2007.

The Max-Planck-Gymnasium is conveniently located between two bus and underground stations (Auf dem Damm, Meiderich Bahnhof) and directly on Meiderich's main shopping street, the Von-der-Mark-Straße pedestrian zone.

cooperation

For several years now, the school has been working together with the neighboring comprehensive school in Meiderich . So-called cooperation courses are offered in many sparse courses such as the second foreign language or computer science. This concept has been expanded to other schools in recent years, so that cooperation courses with various grammar schools and comprehensive schools in Duisburg-Mitte take place , especially in more unusual advanced courses (sports, geography, art, history, social sciences, etc.) .
