Meiderich / Beeck is a district of Duisburg . It was created in 1975 as part of the local reorganization .

On December 31, 2012, 71,096 people lived in an area of 30.28  km² in this district. The district is further subdivided into the seven districts Beeck , Beeckerwerth , Bruckhausen , Laar , Mittel-, Ober- and Untermeiderich .

The district emerged from the amalgamation of the old city districts IV ( Ruhrort , Beeck, Laar, Beeckerwerth) and V (Meiderich), whereby Ruhrort was eliminated and incorporated into the Homberg / Ruhrort / Baerl district. Bruckhausen was spun off from the Hamborn district and incorporated into the district.

The district lies in the valley of the Alte Emscher and its tributaries, which together with the Ruhr have shaped the area over the centuries. The untamed, extensive river landscape on the lower terrace of the Rhine regularly caused flooding, so that the courtyards in the area could only arise on the high water-free hills. It was only through the canalization of the Emscher and the drainage of the area that it was possible for industry to move in in the late half of the 19th century. It is the steel industry in particular that has shaped today's city district since then, although many locations have since been abandoned. This is how the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park was created on the former iron and steel works between Meiderich and Hamborn .

Nature brought back many abandoned industrial areas. Examples of this include the Duisburg-Nord landscape park , Hagenshof and the former Meiderich-Berg industrial estate. In addition, can be found in the district, many scattered green and recreational areas, the Ruhrauen the district Beeckerwerth which Beecker yard, the city park and the Ingenhammshof in Meiderich.

The district representation is located in the Mittelmeiderich district. According to the municipal ordinance, 17 members decide in public and non-public meetings on the interests of the city district. The district council is chaired by Daniela Stürmann (SPD)

The MSV Duisburg sports club is also based in Mittelmeiderich .
