Elmar Hermann

Elmar Hermann (* 1978 in Neuwied ) is a German visual artist . In his work he prefers to deal with complex issues of human communication.

Life

Hermann completed his studies at the Mainz Art Academy in 2002 and studied fine arts at the Düsseldorf Art Academy until 2006 . Here he was a master student of Rita McBride . At the same time, he completed a degree in philosophy and linguistics at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

Hermann uses various tools such as graphics, sculptures, installations and texts to contextualize found vocabulary and to locate it in the context of the visual arts. For this, he specifically uses instruments from philosophy, linguistics and art, as well as other material, etc. a. from film and television. This creates partly humorous and partly serious arrangements that have to assert themselves in a world between art, theory and pop.

An important part of his work is collaborative work with other artists and theorists as well as students at universities. Hermann has been a member of the NUANS artists' initiative since 2007.

reception

Hermann usually realizes works for special exhibition situations. a. in Düsseldorf , Leipzig , Cologne , Istanbul , Tokyo , New York and Los Angeles . He often integrates artist friends into his own exhibition concepts, for example at KIT Düsseldorf or as part of projects with the artist group NUANS. He has also received several grants and awards, including a. of the Bonn Art Fund and the NRW Art Foundation.
