Elmar Witt

Elmar Witt (* 1960 in Warstein ) is a German conductor , horn player and music teacher .

Witt had violin lessons from the age of nine and was concertmaster in the school orchestra. From 1971 he played in his father's trombone choir and began his training as a horn player there. From 1976 to 1978 he studied music at the Funkkolleg and completed an apprenticeship as an organist and church musician , which he completed with the C examination. After graduating from high school, he studied horn with Johannes Heppekausen at the Detmold / Dortmund University of Music , and also studied conducting for four semesters with Werner Seiss . In 1984 he passed the state music teaching examination, in 1990 the artistic maturity examination. In 1999 he took a course as a conductorHermann Breuer .

During his studies, Witt was principal horn with the Dortmund Young Symphony Orchestra and pentaphony in the brass quintet . He made recordings with both ensembles and went on concert tours through Europe, Thailand, Australia, the USA and the Soviet Union. In 1989 he took part in the German Brass masterclass , and in the following year he became a member of the Concertino Synthesizer Ensemble in Dortmund . Witt was a lecturer at the University of Dortmund and teaches at the music schools in Dortmund and Herne. He leads the trombone choir of the Evangelical Church Community of Herne-Röhlinghausen and is the conductor of the Herne Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1996 .
