Elmar G. Wolfstetter (born November 16, 1945 in Stuttgart ) is a German economist and university professor .

career

Wolfstetter studied economics , mathematics and sociology at the University of Heidelberg from 1965 , which he completed in 1970 with a degree in economics . From 1970 to 1973 he worked as a research assistant for Carl Christian von Weizsäcker in Heidelberg and in 1973 and 1974 for Holger Bonus at the University of Dortmund . From 1974 to 1978 he was an assistant professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo in the USA . In the meantime he received his doctorate in Dortmund in 1976. From 1978 to 1982 he was an Associate Professor with tenure at the State University of New York at Buffalo, before moving to the Free University of Berlin as Professor of Economics in 1982 . Since 1992 he has been Professor of Economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He retired on March 31, 2012 . Since 2008 he has been a regular visiting professor at Korea University in Seoul. Visiting professorships and a. at Yonsei University, Korea University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Hebrew University, University of Haifa, University of Pittsburgh, University of Copenhagen, University of Bergen, University of Bern.

Wolfstetter's research focuses on the theory and practice of auctions and the design of incentives, contracts and organizations. His text book "Topics in Microeconomics: Industrial Organization, Auctions, and Incentives" was first published in 1999 by Cambridge University Press , in 2002 in the second edition and in 2003 in Chinese by Shanghai University Press . He has published a large number of scientific articles of the highest quality internationally, including a. in Games and Economic Behavior, Rand Journal of Economics, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Economic Theory, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Oxford Economic Papers, International Journal of Game Theory etc.

Wolfstetter was editor of the Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics (JITE) and was on the editorial board of the European Economic Review from 2000–2011 . He has headed several graduate schools and collaborative research centers and has worked as a consultant for the World Bank, numerous companies, ministries and authorities.
